HOLY ORDERS
Sacraments of Service

Sacrament of Holy Orders Having served as a vocation director for 12 years, I have heard most of the excuses for not answering a vocational call. Let me share a few. One of my favorites is, “I’m not worthy.” Or from a parent, “He’s not worthy.” My favorite response was, “You are (or he is) not, so get over it.” This always stopped the conversation in its tracks, but I was partly serious in my answer. None of us, including Jorge Bergoglio, is worthy of the priesthood. It is a gift from God. And what a gift it is! All we can do is marvel that the Lord is generous and loving enough to let us share in his priesthood. Fr. Don Miller O.F.M

Jesus Our Priest Gerry O’Collins SJ shares some thoughts on the priesthood of Christ, as understood by Paul, and considers how ordained ministry continually draws on aspects of Christ’s priesthood. (ThinkingFaith)
A Good Vocation Video A video by two newly ordained priests who filmed it during their final year at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago. The video does a nice job of showing what life in the seminary is like, portraying the seminarians as just everyday guys, highlighting the importance of discernment, presenting the priesthood as an attractive choice without elevating it so far above the lay vocation, and highlighting ordination day.

Catechism of the Catholic Church: Holy Orders
Holy Orders: Ordained to Serve, Gather, Transform and Send (USCCB Reflection) By virtue of our Baptism, all Christians are part of a common priesthood of believers. We are all called to participate in Christ’s mission. Through the Sacrament of Holy Orders, bishops and priests are given a special role in carrying out this mission.

USCCB Holy Orders From the moment of Jesus' conception in the womb of Mary until his Resurrection, he was filled with the Holy Spirit.  In biblical language, he was anointed by the Holy Spirit and thus established by God the Father as our high priest. As Risen Lord, he remains our high priest. . . . While all the baptized share in Christ's priesthood, the ministerial priesthood shares this through the Sacrament of Holy Orders in a special way.

TASK 2 – LITURGICAL EDUCATION – Students recognize the presence of Christ and enter into communion with him through active, full, and conscious participation in the Liturgical celebrations and Sacraments of the Church.

The Essential Concepts come from the Table of Contents for the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). They have been re-organized to fit under the Six Tasks of Catechesis. CCC articles numbers associated with each Essential Concept are listed throughout this document. Referencing CCC article numbers is a recommended resource for catechist preparation.
