Online Advent Calendar for Adults Join Loyola Press for a special online Advent experience. Following a traditional Advent calendar format, the experience invites you to slow down this season and discover the quiet moments of Advent hope.

The Meaning of the Advent Wreath One of the most popular Christian symbols used in churches and family homes to celebrate the meaning of Advent is the Advent wreath. The Catholic Advent wreath has four candles (three purple and one rose) evenly spaced along a circle of evergreen branches. Each component of the Advent wreath has special meaning for Christians who use it as a part of their preparation for Christmas.
Best Advent Ever A free email program that will help you slow down and focus on what matters most during this busy season. USCCB-Advent Calendar Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) leading up to the celebration of Christmas.

9 Powerful and Practical Ways to Celebrate Advent This Year
Just as in Lent, in Advent, the Church encourages prayer, fasting, and almsgiving throughout this season. Here are 9 simple and easy ways to enter into the powerful and prayerful season of Advent.

Celebrating Advent as a Family Advent traditions are numerous. We do not always know their exact origin, but they have been lived in the hearts of the faithful. If traditions are lived and understood, they can bring families closer to Christ and transform the hearts of those who participate in them. How can we introduce some Advent traditions into our families this Advent season?

Blessing of a Christmas Manger or Nativity Scene The blessing of the Christmas manger or nativity scene may take place on Christmas
Eve or at another suitable time. When the manger is set up in the home, it is
appropriate that it is blessed by a parent or another family member.

TASK 2-INITIATING INTO THE CELEBRATION OF THE MYSTERY - Recognize and experience the presence of Christ and enter into communion with Him through active, full, and conscious participation in the Church's liturgical celebrations and sacraments.

The Essential Concepts come from the Table of Contents for the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). They have been re-organized to fit under the Six Tasks of Catechesis. CCC articles numbers associated with each Essential Concept are listed throughout this document. Referencing CCC article numbers is a recommended resource for catechist preparation.
