The Meaning of the Advent Wreath One of the most popular Christian symbols used in churches and family homes to celebrate the meaning of Advent is the Advent wreath. The Catholic Advent wreath has four candles (three purple and one rose) evenly spaced along a circle of evergreen branches. Each component of the Advent wreath has special meaning for Christians who use it as a part of their preparation for Christmas.

Celebrating Advent as a Family Advent traditions are numerous. We do not always know their exact origin, but they have been lived in the hearts of the faithful. If traditions are lived and understood, they can bring families closer to Christ and transform the hearts of those who participate in them. How can we introduce some Advent traditions into our families this Advent season? Blessing of an Advent Wreath The use of the Advent Wreath is a traditional practice which has found its place in the Church as well as in the home. The blessing of an Advent Wreath takes place on the First Sunday of Advent or on the evening before the First Sunday of Advent. Blessing of the Christmas Manger or Nativity Scene Blessing of the Family Creche is a great tradition for families during Advent. Many families also chose to hide the baby Jesus until Christmas morning. |
